The workshop is accessible to all abilities and good fine-motor skills is an advantage as you will be handing delicate fabric, drawing and embellishing using various painting and sewing materials.

Julie will lead you step-by-step, teaching various silk painting techniques such as drawing with Gutta, painting with silk paints, stencilling, and decorating your card designs using simple embroidery and other embellishing techniques. At the end of the workshop you will have a beautiful large hand-made card to take home, with your drawn or traced design which will showcase the skills you have developed.

All materials are included. Please bring an apron (or an oversized shirt) to protect clothing. Although the activities are not ‘messy’, you will be using fabric paints.

Session: Wednesday 29 May, 10am-12.30pm

Tickets: £35/£31.50

Tutor: Julie Morgan

Julie is an artist with a BA Art Degree from Brighton Art College, who has worked as a teacher and as a Head of Art and Textiles in mainstream and special schools for the last 25 years.

She developed a passion for silk painting and now runs a successful business painting and making bespoke silk cushions for clients mainly in UK and USA.

‘Because silk painting combines art and textiles, it creates a perfect medium for me. I love working with silk and enjoy the beautiful spontaneous effects and colours the inks create on this tactile fabric. There are so many techniques to explore, which can be mixed and matched to create very original and visually exciting designs.’
