This is a day for learning about 3D seamless felting and the shaping and fulling of hats.  You will learn how to design, measure and size your template. The incorporation of fabrics and fibres gives interesting surface textures. There will be opportunity to choose the style of your hat. This workshop is suitable for beginners and the more advanced felter, however it would be an advantage to have some previous knowledge of wet felting. Please also note that there is a large amount of physical work involved with rubbing and rolling.

All materials included in the cost.

Extra information for students: - Please bring a notepad and pen ( a camera is also useful, but not necessary, for visual reference) and a plastic bag to take your work home in. Although we will be using soapy water you should not get ‘wet’ or need to wear old clothes.

Session: Friday 22 November 10am-4pm 2024.

Tickets: £60/£54

Tutor: Sarah Waters

Sarah is a textile artist with a passion for felt making that originates from her love of sheep. Living in the New Forest her work reflects her desire to connect with nature and the importance of sustainability. She produces work that is not only functional but has colour, texture and a tactile quality. Sarah has been spinning weaving and dyeing her own fleeces for over thirty years. Having graduated in Agriculture she set up and ran her own company, producing yarn and knitting kits from her own flock of several hundred Rare Breeds of sheep.

Feltmaking was a natural progression and Sarah now has over twenty years of experience in teaching this ancient craft. She currently runs her own textiles business teaching, exhibiting in the UK and internationally and selling her work though galleries and online. Sarah is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsman and regional co-ordinator for the International Feltmakers Association
