Join Emilie for a unique day all designed to unlock the natural movement within the body and celebrate the love of dance. With a meditative start to the morning, you will learn techniques and tools to release tension in the body and mind. Allowing us to take an embodied and mindful mindset as we blend towards movement.

Step further into the world of improvised dancing as you are guided through fun exercises and an extended ‘Dancing Free’ dance. Utilising imaginative stimuli, movement play, and embodiment practices. We will take a journey into all things dance and movement, rejoicing music, building our confidence, whilst allowing ourselves to unleash our inner dancer. We will enjoy a big improvisation before finishing with a grounding relaxation.

Dancing Free is for anyone who enjoys dance for the joy of it. The day is designed to allow you to embrace your own movement style. No required experience of meditation or dance is needed. A general level of fitness will be beneficial. Please note there are moments in the day of (unenforced) stillness and high energy activity.

What to bring? Please bring a yoga mat (we have spares), comfy clothes, lots of water and a packed lunch.

Session: Saturday 6 April, 10am-4pm

Tickets: £24/£21.60

Tutor: Emilie Barton

Emilie Barton is a Dance Practitioner and Dance Artist based in Dorset alongside working in Arts Marketing. Following her graduation from Roehampton University London with a BA Hons in Dance Studies, Emilie launched her career in the dance sector performing in various works, choreographing her own solo performance and exploring somatic and embodied practices.

In January 2019, Emilie launched Dancing Free classes in Southbourne and Dorset - hoping to mix somatic practices and conscious movement for wellbeing with her professional dance background. Dancing Free has since been taken to events and festivals such as Rumble Festival 2021, Lighthouse Holistic Festival 2022 & 2023 and The Healing Weekend 2022. Emilie has collaborated with practitioners such as Kuba Jursza and Sarah Dawn. And has been thrilled to have run Dancing Free classes at Forest Arts Centre since 2022.

Emilie’s community practice was recognised in 2021 when she was selected to join Matthew Bourne’s New Adventure’s Overture Cohort (2021 - 22). A professional development programme for dance artists and dance teachers. Alongside working on her performance project where her solo ‘The Call’ was accepted to perform at Resolution Festival 2023 in London. Emilie is intrinsically interested in embodied movement, performance, and voice where she strives to empower others, champion the arts, and tell stories through dance and theatre.
