Kids Arty Fun Day – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (for children aged 5–11)
Looking for a fun, imaginative way to keep your child entertained? Join us for Kids Arty Fun Day – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a playful, art-packed workshop where children explore creativity, storytelling, and hands-on art-making inspired by Roald Dahl’s beloved tale.
Through a series of exciting activities, children will sculpt, sketch, and create colourful, character-filled artworks in a welcoming, low-pressure environment that encourages fun, self-expression, and a little bit of chocolatey imagination (without the eating!).
Schedule for the Day
9:30 – 10:45 | Clay Sculpting – Mini Oompa Loompas
We’ll kick off the day by getting hands-on with air-dry clay! Children will sculpt their very own Oompa Loompa, experimenting with shapes, textures, and characterful details. Each creation can be taken home to display proudly. All materials and tools are provided.
11:00 – 12:30 | Magical Candy Mobile
Next, children will create a colourful hanging candy mobile using hoops, beads, and yarn. This fun, tactile activity encourages creativity, imagination, and playful experimentation with colour and composition.
12:30 – 1:15 | Lunch Break
Please bring a packed lunch and water bottle. We’ll provide a calm space to relax, chat, and refuel before the afternoon session.
1:15 – 2:00 | Character Sketching & Drawing Techniques
Using clips from the film as inspiration, children will explore sketching techniques to capture their favourite characters. A fun, dynamic way to develop observational drawing skills with plenty of guidance and encouragement.
2:15 – 3:00 | Watercolour Sketch – Favourite Character
We’ll finish the day with a watercolour sketch of each child’s favourite character, exploring colour, form, and expressive mark-making.

About the Tutor: Shelley Perry is a landscape painter based on the Dorset and Hampshire coast, where the sea and surrounding countryside provide constant inspiration. Working exclusively with her hands rather than brushes, Shelley uses acrylic paint to create bold, expressive works that celebrate colour, movement, and the raw beauty of natural coastal landscapes.
Her practice is instinctive and process-led, rooted in a freeing and liberating approach to painting that values emotion, energy, and physical connection with the canvas. Each piece is shaped by touch, gesture, and spontaneity, resulting in vibrant, tactile surfaces that reflect both place and experience. Shelley is currently expanding her practice by experimenting with new materials, including spray paints and acrylic inks, further pushing the boundaries of her mark-making.
Originally trained as a primary school teacher, Shelley now also runs local art and craft workshops for both adults and children, sharing her passion for creativity, confidence, and playful exploration through art.
