Online: Dance for Adults with Learning Disabilities

This class is designed to improve confidence and build skills, coordination and an overall better wellbeing. The class promotes group participation, timing and concentration in a fun, safe environment.

What you need: wear comfy clothing and bring plenty of water.

The class will be delivered via zoom from the centre. We kindly ask that support worker, friend or family member is present to assist the participants during the session.

Tutor: Joanne Collinborne

Joanne currently works with a diverse mix of participants and believes that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of dancing. She is interested in inclusive practice and dance for health and wellbeing and has experience working within these areas. Joanne is keen to continually develop her practice, and she has recently completed a Level 6 Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning at The Laban Conservatoire.

Class access information

This class will run live each week via Zoom, an online streaming website. Zoom is an online platform which allows you to talk live to your tutor and classmates via a video or audio call. This class is designed to be progressive, with sessions each week following on from the previous week, helping to build your experience over the course of the class. As this class is live, you will need to be available at the time specified to participate.

To access your class you will need to set up a free Zoom account. You can do this by visiting https://zoom.us/ and clicking ‘Sign up, it’s free’. You will also need access to a device with an internet connection and speakers– a computer, laptop, phone or tablet should do the job. If you would like to be able to talk with your tutor via audio your device will also need a microphone. If you would like to speak with your tutor via video your device will also need a camera.

Prior to the start date of your class our team will be in touch via email. We will confirm the email address you have used to create your Zoom account so we can add you to the class. We will also send you detailed instructions via email to help you log into your online class. We will have a member of our team on standby for the first two week of class to assist you with any issues you may have accessing your class. Please ensure that there is no offence or inappropriate items in your background, a member of HCT staff will be observing each live session and monitoring overall behaviour. Please take care when moving, please be aware of any hazards such has ornaments that could be knocked over or trip hazards. Please wear comfortable footwear and do not wear socks on slippery surfaces such as laminate floor. Wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing which is easy to move around in. Follow the teacher’s directions as per the video and be respectful of others in the class. We cannot accept responsibility for any injuries, loss or damage that maybe caused when following the movement. It is the viewers responsibility to look after their own safety and be sensible when moving and the viewer shall take part at his/hers own risk.
