Jack will take students through a series of exercises and practices aimed at building up their confidence using oil paint in a relaxed and friendly manner. This will include learning about colour, values, composition and style with practical exercises working from life, photographs and studies of other artists. The class will work through a range of themes and subjects including landscapes, still lives and a basic overview of portraits. Each course will build up to students completing a painting of their own choice and composition. This course is great for those who have a basic understanding in working with oils or painting in general.
Students are encouraged to brill their own materials, although basic materials can be borrowed from the centre. Paper will be provided.

Jack has a strong connection to landscapes and the environment and throughout his life has sought out different ways to engage with them. He has studied environmental sciences and travelled widely throughout the world which has fostered his love for nature and landscapes. Like a lot of people during the pandemic he started to take his creative practice more seriously and took up landscape painting with oils and acrylics. He has developed his skills through a sustained period of study at The Classical Art Academy in Southbourne and short courses at AUB and elsewhere. Jack also started and runs a life drawing group in Bournemouth and regularly runs art classes in the Bournemouth and Dorset area. Jack is passionate about making Fine Art skills more accessible and particularly enjoys sharing his knowledge about oil and landscape painting.
