What will the workshop involve?
Needle felting is a method of ‘sculpting ‘ wool into figures and forms by repeatedly piercing it using a special barbed felting needle.
In the workshop we will learn basic dry felting techniques to create either a small Owl or Mouse figure for you to take home. We will learn how to add features to personalise your felt figure and make it truly unique.
We will also look at further skills which you can try at home and use on more complex projects.
Needle felting figures can be used in a variety of ways as fun decorations, gifts or cute toys. I’m sure you will be keen to get experimenting once you have mastered the basic techniques!!
Needle felting is a wonderfully simple technique which is easy to learn. It is an inexpensive craft , great fun and the results are always a delight! The creative possibilities are endless once you get started.
All materials will be provided for you to create an autumnal felt figure. Please note that colours of wool/roving available may be limited. Please bring your own wool with you if you have a particular colour preference.
PLEASE NOTE: there is a risk of pricked fingers from the felting needles, so you will need to stay alert and keep focused while you work!
Who is it for?
Beginners, but improvers are welcome. The workshop is suitable for over 12 s only.
Tutor: Kate Given
Kate is an enthusiastic crafter with many years experience of teaching a variety of arts and crafts both in schools and to adults.
For as long as she can remember she has had a passion for sewing, embroidery, painting, drawing, knitting...but she only discovered dry needle felting a couple of years ago. Kate was amazed at how simple the process of creating small felt figures is and was immediately hooked!
