It’s time to celebrate Soul at Forest!
Sally Molloy - world Northern Soul Dance Champion - will be hosting dance workshops, followed by an evening of Northern Soul, funk and Motown music, brought to you by Retro Grooves, the vinyl DJs who run Solent Soul and live music from RJ’s Soul Coaster.
What can you expect from the workshops? A safe space to let yourself go, feel the beat and move your feet! Providing the tools to help build your personal style. Most importantly we unlock the ability to get lost in music! Northern Soul is ALWAYS improvised NEVER choreographed. We won’t be learning routines or sequences. I’ll be guiding you with personalised tips to help with basic steps and transitions which evolve into the confidence you need to - LET GO. We might throw a few tricks in there too. The rest is between you and that one of a kind music that is - NORTHERN SOUL.

Retro Grooves
Retro Grooves are a couple of DJ's that are actually a ‘couple’. John & S-j enjoy sharing their passion for owning and playing 7" vinyl records so much that Solent Soul was created to meet the needs of like-minded soul music and dance lovers and are supported from all over the South.
It's almost a year since Solent Soul was formed and after lots of gigs, events and festivals they are excited to add the Forest Arts Centre to their list of venues.
So, if you love Motown & Northern Soul, polish up your dancing shoes and come along to enjoy the greatest Soul ever recorded, complimented by the Forest Art’s superb dance floor, specialist lighting and speakers just made for the wonderful, warm sound of vinyl!
RJ’s Soul Coaster
RJ's Soul Coaster is a nine piece band of experienced musicians playing all your favourites from the golden age of sweet soul music.
These musicians have performed all along the south coast from Brighton in the East to Exeter in the West, and at such diverse venues as The World Windsurfing Championships, Bournemouth International Centre (with Status Quo), Poole Quay Summer Breeze Main Stage (with fireworks), Music Festivals and Venues, Weddings, Private Party's, Club's and of course local Pubs.
With all that dancing you're sure to work up an appetite and we have just the thing for you! The Smoking Gunn will be serving up some seriously delicious food from 5PM.
