Art Appreciation is BACK in our Theatre for the first time since 2019!
Tutor: Alastair Eales
Alastair is a Gallery Lecturer at Southampton City Gallery and has an MA in European Fine Art. Ali is a visual artist, working in his Hampshire studio. Ali host Art Appreciation sessions at Forest Art Centre for the past several years. Alis is also working towards a PhD in visual art through the University of Southampton. His Sessions have proved really popular in Centre with a strong local following.

The Impressionists: A Gentle Revolution:
Whistlestop tour-de-force through the world of Impressionism (did you know that, if Edgar Degas had his way the group would have been called "The Nasturtiums" - the other group members voted him down). We will meet the movers and shakers of this "gentle" revolution and explore why their art changed the way we see the world.

The Death of the High Baroque at the Dawn of the Age of Enlightenment:
The 18th Century was a tumultuous time - full of contradictions, revolutions and polemics! Here we explore the fractured edge between the High Baroque and the "age of enlightenment". Our journey will take us through Hogarth's London and end in bloody revolution on the streets of Paris.
