Rendition 15

" "

Friday 13 June 2.30pm & 7.30pm
Dir. Gavin Hood / 117mins / 2007

The director of ‘Tsotsi’ focuses on the topical issue of ‘Extraordinary Rendition’: the illegal kidnapping, detention and torture of suspected terrorists by the CIA. On his return from a business meeting, Egyptian born US resident Anwar El-Ibrahimi is ‘disappeared’ from a Chicago flight and taken to South Africa for ‘extreme interrogation’. A cleverly constructed narrative follows conflicted CIA agent Douglas Freeman (Jake Gyllenhaal), the terrorist linked daughter of Anwar’s interrogator and Anwar’s pregnant wife (Reese Witherspoon) as she desperately tries to find her missing husband.

BBFC Warning – contains strong violence, language and scenes of torture

The Kite Runner 12A

Friday 11 July 2.30pm & 7.30pm
Dir. Marc Forster / 122mins / 2007

Director Marc Forster’s (Finding Neverland, Monsters Ball) interpretation of Khaled Hosseini’s popular debut novel is a moving story of friendship, loyalty and integrity set against a background of war. After fleeing his homeland to California when the Russians invaded years before, Amir receives an urgent message from childhood friend Hassan and returns to the now Taliban controlled Afghanistan to assuage the guilt he feels for past lies and betrayal and lay the past to rest.
